TACOMA — A house in Tacoma was significantly damaged by fire early Sunday morning, according to the Tacoma Fire Department. Fire crews responded to the 3500 block of East I Street at approximately 7:45 a.m. following reports of a possible house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with flames and heavy smoke coming from the home. The department reported that crews initially employed an offensive strategy to attack the fire. However, they switched to a defensive approach when they were unable to immediately access the fire in the basement.
Approximately one hour later, the fire was brought under control. Firefighters continued to search the home for any hidden or smoldering fires to ensure that the blaze did not reignite.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
