An armed man was shot and killed by police in Parkland, Washington, after he allegedly stabbed a man and the victim’s dog, moments after asking the victim about his religion. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, leading to a police pursuit and a fatal confrontation with law enforcement.
The Attack
The series of events unfolded just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, when a man called 911 to report that he had been stabbed by an unknown assailant near the S S Quickstop Grocer in Parkland, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers arrived on the scene to find the victim and his dog in serious condition. Authorities said the victim was able to describe the attacker before being transported to a nearby hospital.
The victim reported that the suspect had approached him and asked what religion he practiced. When the victim responded, mentioning something about being a Christian, the suspect allegedly attacked, stabbing both the victim and his dog. The dog was quickly rushed to an animal hospital, where it underwent immediate surgery.
Search and Pursuit
After receiving a description of the suspect, police began a search in the area. Several hours later, a deputy spotted the suspect on the 800th block of 112th Street and attempted to pursue him. As the suspect fled behind a nearby house, law enforcement officers reported that he advanced toward them while armed.
Police Confrontation
Faced with an armed suspect advancing on them, deputies fired on the individual, striking him. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Ongoing Investigation
The condition of the victim and his dog has not been publicly updated, and their identities have not been released. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office has not yet responded to a request for further comment.
