A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after an argument with his girlfriend led to an SUV crashing into a church building in West Valley City, according to police.
Authorities said the couple was driving near 3120 West 4700 South when a dispute broke out inside the vehicle around 7:30 p.m. The altercation caused the driver to lose control, sending the SUV into the side of the church.
Police reported that no one was injured in the crash, though the impact caused an estimated $20,000 in property damage. The church has been temporarily closed for safety inspections and repairs.
Officers arrested the man at the scene. He is being investigated for domestic violence and driving under the influence, pending toxicology results.
Investigators have not released the name of the suspect or his girlfriend, but they confirmed both were treated on-site for minor injuries before being cleared by emergency responders.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation.
