Semi Crash Near Utah–Nevada Border Sends Two to Salt Lake City Hospitals

WENDOVER, Utah — Two people were hospitalized late Sunday night after a serious crash involving a semi-truck and an SUV near the Utah–Nevada border.

According to the Wendover Fire Department, crews were called to the scene on Interstate 80 near mile marker 4 just after 9:24 p.m. on Sunday. The crash occurred west of Wendover, in Tooele County.

Investigators say both vehicles were traveling westbound when the SUV drifted out of its lane and turned in front of the semi-truck hauling fuel. The semi struck the SUV, sending both vehicles off the roadway and into a cable barrier.

Emergency responders reported that the semi driver was not injured, but two passengers from the SUV sustained injuries and were transported by ambulance to hospitals in Salt Lake City for further treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the SUV to cross lanes. The Utah Highway Patrol and Wendover Fire Department are continuing to investigate the crash.
