A garage fire behind a home in Tooele prompted a precautionary bomb squad response early Tuesday morning after firefighters discovered potentially dangerous items at the scene.

According to Tooele City Fire Chief Matt McCoy, crews were dispatched to the fire on Utah Avenue shortly after reports came in of flames coming from a detached garage. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

Initial reports suggested a possible victim might have been trapped inside the garage. However, Chief McCoy later confirmed that the individual in question had been located outside the structure and was safe.

As firefighters worked through the debris, they found several items that appeared suspicious, prompting authorities to call in the Unified Fire Authority’s bomb squad as a precautionary measure. The specialized team arrived on scene to assess and secure the area while ensuring the safety of residents and first responders.

After examination, officials determined that the items were not a threat and declared the scene safe. However, details about the objects were not disclosed, as the incident remains under active investigation.

Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the flames, and no injuries were reported among residents or emergency personnel.

Chief McCoy noted that while the cause of the fire is still being investigated, early indications do not suggest foul play. Authorities are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses to determine what sparked the blaze.
