The Gobbler Returns: Southern Utah’s Beloved Thanksgiving Race Launches Again from Tech Ridge

The Gobbler race, one of Southern Utah’s most loved Thanksgiving traditions, is gearing up for another energetic holiday morning.

This year’s event arrives with a fresh course high above the city, offering runners a breath of crisp autumn air and a spectacular view as they kick off their Thanksgiving celebrations.

The 2025 edition will be held early on Thursday, Nov. 27, inviting families, kids, and seasoned athletes to enjoy an uplifting start to the holiday.

A Growing Holiday Tradition

Now celebrating its 12th year, the Gobbler has expanded far beyond a local run. Known for its family-friendly atmosphere, the event includes 5K, 10K, and a 1K fun run for kids, making it a perfect gathering for runners of all ages.

According to event manager Dan Aamodt, participation is expected to exceed all previous years thanks to several upgrades and community excitement.

“We’re adding some amazing features this year, and the energy is higher than ever,” Aamodt shared.

New Location: Tech Ridge Takes Center Stage

This edition marks a major change as the event moves from the Dixie Convention Center to Tech Ridge. The new venue offers:

  • Wide, newly built roads
  • Dedicated trails
  • Sweeping views of downtown St. George
  • Plenty of room to ease runner congestion

Aamodt praised the Tech Ridge team for their strong partnership, highlighting that this collaboration is expected to continue well into the future.

Fresh Additions for 2025

To elevate the fun, the Gobbler is introducing two new attractions:

Turkey Costume Contest

Participants can dress in their most creative turkey-themed outfits for a chance to win $200 cash.

Turkey Toss Fundraiser

For a $10 entry fee, runners can test their strength by tossing a sandbag disguised as a turkey. The contestant who throws it the farthest wins $150, and 100% of the proceeds support charity.

The 2025 Gobbler follows a tight and family-focused schedule:

  • 1K Kids’ Run: 8:00 a.m.
  • 10K Race: 8:15 a.m.

A Tradition Built on Community Spirit

The Gobbler was originally founded by Collins and Adam Stuart, who were inspired by their habit of running on Thanksgiving morning before enjoying their festive meal. What started as a small family activity evolved into a major community event, with last year’s race reaching an impressive 2,000 participants—a new record.

Thanksgiving runs are now popular nationwide, and the Gobbler continues to stand out as a cherished tradition for families across Southern Utah.

The Gobbler 2025 race blends fitness, fun, charity, and community spirit into one unforgettable Thanksgiving celebration. With a new course, expanded attractions, family-oriented events, and strong support from local partners, the race promises to deliver an energetic start to the holiday.

Whether you’re running, walking, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, the Gobbler remains a heartwarming tradition that keeps growing year after year.
