A shocking incident in Florida has left a family shattered after a young man allegedly stabbed his own brother during an argument over money. Police say the fight began over funds from a shared CashApp account and quickly turned deadly. The accused is now facing a serious murder charge and remains behind bars.
Argument Over Money Turns Violent
According to authorities, the incident happened on January 21 at a home on Northwest Fifth Court, just north of Miami. Jawan McBride, 21, has been charged with first-degree murder in Miami-Dade County. The victim’s name has not yet been officially released.
Police reports state that McBride’s brother confronted him about money he believed was taken from their joint CashApp account. The victim reportedly demanded repayment and accused McBride of withdrawing funds that did not belong to him.
Investigators say the victim also threatened to take McBride’s upcoming paycheck as compensation if the money was not returned.
Alleged Plan Before the Stabbing
Court documents suggest the argument had been building for some time. According to the arrest report, there were messages sent about three hours before the stabbing that allegedly showed McBride planning to kill his brother that same day.
Authorities claim that during the confrontation, McBride went into his bedroom and armed himself with an 8-inch knife. When he came back out, he reportedly hid the knife behind his leg.
Deadly Confrontation in the Living Room
The arrest report states that the victim was in the living room when he allegedly yelled and charged at McBride. At that point, McBride is accused of swinging the knife and stabbing his brother in the torso.
Emergency responders were called to the scene and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead later that night.
An autopsy later revealed that the victim suffered severe internal injuries. These included a perforated lung, stomach, diaphragm, and small intestine. His lower left rib was also chipped. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by sharp force injuries.
Suspect Remains in Jail
Authorities say McBride admitted to stabbing his brother during the dispute over money. He has been denied bond and is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
