Suspect is in arrest after bringing police to the remains of a missing 17-year-old girl he met online

A heartbreaking case involving a missing teenage girl has taken a tragic turn after authorities confirmed that her remains have been found and a man has been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Missing Teen’s Remains Found After Weeks-Long Search

Seventeen-year-old Hailey Buzbee, who was reported missing in early January, has been found dead, according to officials in Perry County, Ohio. The discovery came weeks after her parents reported her missing from their home in Fishers, Indiana, on January 6.

Police began searching for Hailey after her parents noticed she had disappeared overnight. Within a few days, investigators identified a suspicious vehicle that had been in the neighbourhood on the night she was last seen.

This vehicle eventually led authorities to a suspect living in Ohio.

Suspect Identified and Investigated

Police identified 39-year-old Tyler Thomas as a person of interest in the case. When officers first contacted him, he claimed he had dropped Hailey off on the side of a road in Ohio. However, investigators later determined that this statement was not true.

Search warrants were carried out at Thomas’ home and at a short-term rental property connected to him in Ohio. During these searches, authorities reportedly found digital evidence, including alleged child sexual abuse material involving the missing teen on his electronic devices.

Court documents also suggest that Thomas tried to delete a video from his phone that allegedly showed Hailey in a compromising situation.

Connection Through Online Gaming

According to police, Hailey and Thomas are believed to have met through an online gaming platform. Investigators are continuing to examine their online interactions and communication history as part of the case.

Arrest and Current Charges

Tyler Thomas turned himself in to authorities on January 31. He has been charged with:

  • Pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor
  • Evidence tampering

At his court arraignment on February 2, he was given a bond of $1.5 million. Officials confirmed that he later cooperated with investigators and worked with law enforcement, including the FBI, to help locate Hailey’s remains.

As of now, Thomas has not been formally charged with Hailey’s death. However, officials from the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office are expected to file additional charges as the investigation continues.

Family Mourns the Loss

Hailey’s family has expressed deep grief over the loss. In a heartfelt social media tribute, her father described her as a smart, kind, and caring young girl with a bright future ahead. He shared that she loved her family deeply and held a special place in the hearts of many.

The family says they are devastated by the tragedy and are seeking justice for their daughter.
