SALT LAKE CITY — A two-car collision at 2100 South and 700 East, just outside Dee’s Restaurant, caused one vehicle to roll onto its hood Sunday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
According to Lt. Cardon of the Salt Lake City Police Department, the crash occurred when one driver ran a red light, striking another vehicle in the intersection.
“A car ran a red light and struck a second car,” Lt. Cardon said.
The impact caused one of the vehicles to flip upside down, landing on its hood in the middle of the roadway. Despite the dramatic rollover, no serious injuries were reported. Paramedics treated those involved at the scene for minor injuries.
Traffic in the busy intersection was temporarily rerouted as crews cleared debris and righted the overturned vehicle. Multiple lanes were closed for a short period while tow trucks arrived to remove the damaged cars.
By early evening, all lanes were reopened and normal traffic resumed. The Salt Lake City Police Department is continuing its investigation but confirmed that failure to stop at a red light appears to be the primary cause of the crash.
