Roosevelt Man Arrested After App Alerts Authorities to Child Sex Abuse Material

A Roosevelt man has been arrested after investigators say he used a messaging app to send and receive large amounts of child sex abuse material. Wyatt Casey Hamilton, 30, was taken into custody Wednesday and is now under investigation for more than 50 felony offenses.

App Report Triggered the Investigation

The case began nearly a year ago when administrators from the Kik messaging app reported suspicious activity to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The report indicated that a user had uploaded files showing minors engaged in sexually explicit acts.

By May, the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation. Detectives reviewed 46 files flagged by Kik, which allegedly included around 150 images involving child victims ranging from infants to teenagers.

Multiple Felony Charges

Hamilton was arrested on suspicion of:

  • 25 counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor
  • 25 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor
  • Marijuana possession
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of a weapon by a restricted person

When officers served a search warrant at his home on Wednesday, they reported finding marijuana, paraphernalia, and a rifle.

Statements and Ongoing Investigation

According to a police affidavit, Hamilton at first denied knowing what child sex abuse material was. He later admitted to sending and receiving the images and videos through Kik and email accounts.

Investigators say they are now working to identify the victims in the files. They are also examining whether any of the imagery was created by Hamilton himself.
