OREM, Utah — A 43-year-old man was arrested Sunday after allegedly making bomb threats and shouting incoherently outside an IHOP restaurant in Orem, according to police.
Eric Jonathan Paul Lackey, 43, was booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of nine offenses, including threat of terrorism, driving under the influence, and littering.
Disturbance at the Restaurant
Witnesses told police that Lackey drove erratically into the IHOP parking lot, circling the area before parking across two spots and partially blocking the roadway.
He allegedly tore down a “closed” sign, entered the restaurant, and began confronting customers and employees while ranting about political topics. After being asked to leave, Lackey reportedly returned to his car and began throwing items into the parking lot.
Several witnesses said the man appeared shirtless and “clearly drunk.”
Threats and Arrest
When officers arrived, they said Lackey was screaming incoherently and making threats to blow up the building. According to the arrest report, he referenced several public figures, including Charlie Kirk, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, and “corrupt police.”
Police said Lackey repeatedly claimed that he had a bomb in his car and would detonate it, threatening both officers and bystanders.
Officers detained Lackey and described his behavior as “loudly yelling and babbling inane comments.”
A search of his vehicle revealed THC vapes, though police did not report finding any explosives.
Lackey was ordered by a judge to be held without bail pending further investigation.
