One person was hospitalized after a semi-truck crashed into a concrete barrier in Parley's Canyon

A semi-truck crash on westbound I-80 in Parley’s Canyon has left one person hospitalized and caused significant delays. According to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), the incident occurred at East Canyon, milepost 133, prompting the closure of two right lanes for investigation and cleanup.

Details of the Incident

Sgt. Luis Silva of the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported that the crash resulted from a mechanical failure in the semi-truck, causing the vehicle to strike a concrete barrier on the right side of the highway. While the driver of the truck was uninjured, a passenger suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Impact on Traffic

The crash caused heavy delays for drivers traveling between Park City and Salt Lake City. With the right two lanes on westbound I-80 closed for several hours, traffic was significantly backed up. However, UDOT has confirmed that the lanes have since reopened, but residual delays are expected as traffic returns to normal.

UDOT’s Advisory

UDOT posted on X, advising motorists to “plan for heavy delays between Park City and SLC.” Although the situation has been cleared, drivers should remain cautious and expect lingering traffic congestion in the area.

As of now, traffic has started to flow more smoothly, but UDOT continues to monitor the situation closely.
