Ogden Man, 78, Charged With Forcible Sexual Abuse at Rehabilitation Facility

An elderly Ogden man has been formally charged after authorities say he sexually abused an employee at the rehabilitation center where he was receiving care.

Jack Fyans, 78, is facing a second-degree felony charge of forcible sexual abuse for an incident that occurred on Aug. 9, 2024, according to newly filed court documents.

Police say the assault took place as two facility employees were helping Fyans into his bed. During the process, he allegedly groped one of the workers. The behavior escalated when the victim attempted to step away, according to the police affidavit.

Court records also reveal that Fyans is a registered sex offender, and the incident violated the terms of his existing probation in a separate case. Because of this violation, he was removed from the rehabilitation facility and transferred to prison following the incident.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Utah’s 2nd District Court on Dec. 18. For more information on Utah’s sex offender registry, the Utah Department of Corrections provides public access. General information on sex-crime classifications can be found via the U.S. Department of Justice.

Authorities have not released additional details about the victim or the facility involved.
