Millions of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients were surprised to find no November 2025 SSI payment in their bank accounts. While it may look like a processing error or benefit interruption, the missing payment is actually the result of a standard Social Security Administration (SSA) rule that shifts payments when the first of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
That’s exactly what happened for November 2025, causing the SSI deposit to arrive early, on Friday, October 31, 2025, instead of on the usual November 1 date.
According to the SSA, this long-standing policy ensures timely payments while preventing delays caused by non-business days. For official payment calendar information, refer to the Social Security Administration.
Why There Is No SSI Payment in November 2025
The SSA issues SSI payments on the first of each month, unless that date lands on:
- a Saturday
- a Sunday
- or a federal holiday
Because November 1, 2025, fell on a weekend, the agency moved the deposit to the prior business day—October 31. As a result, recipients technically received their November benefit early, leading some to think the November payment was skipped.
Good News: You’ll Receive Two SSI Payments in December
December 2025 is an unusual month because SSI beneficiaries will receive two payments, each for a different benefit period:
- December 1, 2025 – Regular December SSI payment
- December 31, 2025 – January 2026 payment issued early
The second payment is not a bonus. It is the official January benefit, moved up because January 1 is a federal holiday. However, this second deposit will already include the 2.8% COLA increase for 2026, giving beneficiaries their boosted SSI amount ahead of the new year.
No SSI Payment in January 2026
Because the January payment is delivered early on December 31, you will not receive a second SSI payment during January 2026.
Payments resume their normal first-of-the-month schedule in February 2026, with every check reflecting the updated 2.8% COLA.
Updated SSI Payment Amounts for 2025 and 2026
SSI amounts vary based on household status and any countable income. For 2025, federal base amounts are:
- $967 per month for individuals
- $1,450 per month for eligible couples
- $484 per month for essential persons (caregivers living with a beneficiary)
In 2026, these amounts rise with the 2.8% COLA:
- $994 per month for individuals
- $1,491 per month for couples
- About $498 per month for essential persons
Remember: Many states offer additional state supplement payments, meaning your total benefit may exceed the federal amount. Check your local rules through your state’s social services department or the federal guide on the SSA’s benefits portal.
Plan Ahead for December and January
Because of the holiday schedule shift, beneficiaries will have:
- No SSI payment in November 2025
- Two payments in December
- No SSI payment in January 2026
Recipients are encouraged to budget carefully so the early January payment (issued on December 31) covers expenses through the beginning of the new year.
