SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the first official photograph of its newly organized First Presidency, marking a historic leadership transition following the passing of longtime church president Russell M. Nelson.
President Dallin H. Oaks, 92, was formally announced as the 18th president of the Church on October 14, 2025, succeeding President Nelson, who died on September 27, 2025, at age 101. The new photograph features President Oaks alongside his two counselors — President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor, and President D. Todd Christofferson, second counselor.
The image, released Sunday by Intellectual Reserve, Inc., shows the trio seated together in Salt Lake City, continuing a long-standing tradition of capturing each newly organized First Presidency in an official portrait.
A New Chapter in Church Leadership
President Oaks previously served as first counselor to President Nelson from 2018 to 2025. Before that, he was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1984.
President Eyring, 92, is a familiar face in Church leadership, having served as second counselor to President Nelson (2018–2025), first counselor to President Thomas S. Monson (2008–2018), and second counselor to President Gordon B. Hinckley (2007–2008).
President Christofferson, 80, has been a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since April 2008 and is widely respected for his leadership and service within the global Church.
Honoring a Legacy
President Nelson’s death marked the end of a historic presidency characterized by worldwide temple expansion, increased focus on humanitarian aid, and modernized Church communication.
The new presidency is expected to continue emphasizing faith, unity, and spiritual growth as the Church enters a new era under President Oaks’ direction.
