MISSOULA — The University of Montana Grizzlies are riding high at 8-0 and ranked third nationally, but they’ll face a familiar challenge this weekend when they travel to Ogden, Utah, to take on Weber State — a team that’s had their number in recent years.
The Wildcats have won three straight games against Montana and five of the last six meetings, a streak the Griz hope to end this Saturday in Big Sky Conference play.
Looking to Stay Perfect
Montana enters the matchup fresh off a 49-35 win over Sacramento State, marking the second-highest point total of their season and their best offensive output against a Big Sky opponent in 2025.
The win followed some off-field tension between Sacramento State President Dr. Luke Wood and Griz head coach Bobby Hauck, whose back-and-forth exchanges added fuel to the rivalry. But Hauck’s squad responded on the field, maintaining their perfect record.
Defensive Standouts Lead the Way
Sophomore linebacker Caleb Otlewski has been one of Montana’s defensive anchors this season. The Melissa, Texas, native has appeared in all eight games, notching 32 total tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss, and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
The Griz defense has been dominant overall, leading the Big Sky Conference with 10 team interceptions, a statistic that’s helped them close out several close contests.
Saturday’s Challenge
The Grizzlies’ last win at Weber State came back in 2012, making Saturday’s 1 p.m. kickoff more than just another game — it’s a test of dominance and redemption.
Montana (8-0, 4-0 Big Sky) will try to extend its undefeated run, while Weber State (3-5, 1-3) looks to play spoiler and salvage momentum in a challenging season.
The matchup will be broadcast live on Scripps Sports stations across Montana, with Kyle Hansen and Riley Corcoran, the Voice of the Griz, breaking down the action on this week’s episode of the Griz Insider.
Hauck and Otlewski joined the show to discuss the team’s mindset heading into the pivotal road game, emphasizing focus, physicality, and the importance of ending the Weber State drought.
“Every week is a new challenge,” Hauck said. “We’ve got a lot of respect for Weber State. They’re tough, well-coached, and it’s always a battle down there.”
