A tragic delivery run ended in heartbreak after a DoorDash driver was shot and killed in a suburb just south of Detroit. The case has now reached its conclusion, with the man responsible receiving a lengthy prison sentence. The incident has once again raised concerns about road rage, gun violence, and the risks faced by delivery workers simply doing their jobs.
What Happened on the Night of the Shooting
On March 9, 2025, police received a call reporting shots fired in a Detroit-area suburb, according to local media. Just minutes later, another call came in about a man collapsed outside his vehicle on a bridge.
When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Mamadou Diallo suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Diallo was working as a driver for DoorDash and had just picked up an order from White Castle. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Details From the Police Investigation
Investigators revealed that the shooting followed a traffic incident. Police say a speeding GMC truck suddenly changed lanes and struck Diallo’s Ford Escape. After the collision, the truck allegedly slowed down, allowing Diallo to catch up.
According to police:
- The GMC driver waited after the crash
- Six shots were fired into Diallo’s vehicle
- Diallo was hit in the chest and collapsed shortly after
A one-month investigation led officers to arrest 39-year-old Terrell Simms, the driver of the GMC truck. Two other people were briefly arrested but later released without charges.
Charges and Court Verdict
Simms was charged with multiple serious offences, including:
- Second-degree murder
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Two counts of felony firearm
In October 2025, a jury found Simms guilty on all counts. On January 27, he was sentenced to between 37.5 and 80 years in prison, meaning he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Diallo was originally from Senegal and had moved to Michigan in 2023 to build a better life. At the time of his death, he was simply working to support himself.
In a statement after the arrest, the Ferndale Police Chief described the crime as a senseless act of violence, stressing that Diallo was an innocent man who posed no threat and was only trying to earn a living.
