Man who flew across multiple states to meet woman discovered dead in trash can

A 41-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose body was discovered inside a trash can in an abandoned house in Marion, South Carolina.

Victim Travelled for Job Opportunity Before Disappearance

The victim, 32-year-old David Hutchinson, was a barber from Massachusetts who reportedly travelled to South Carolina after chatting online with a woman who promised him a good-paying job in the area, according to Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers. Hutchinson’s family said they last heard from him on December 29, 2025. When they couldn’t reach him after that, they grew worried and reported him missing.

Police Investigation Leads to Gruesome Discovery

On January 12, Marion Police received a tip about a possible homicide, which led to a full investigation. After following up on additional information, officers discovered Hutchinson’s decomposing body stuffed inside a trash can, which had been left in an abandoned house.

Authorities are treating the case as a homicide, although the exact cause of death has not yet been revealed. An autopsy is pending to determine how Hutchinson died.

Woman Charged in Connection with the Case

Police have now charged Jaida Braddy, 41, with accessory after the fact to murder. Investigators say she was seen moving the trash can that contained Hutchinson’s body. According to reports from WFXB, Braddy allegedly admitted to placing the trash can inside the abandoned home.

She is currently being held on a $15,000 bond. As of now, no one has been charged directly with Hutchinson’s murder.

Family Speaks Out

Speaking to local media, Hutchinson’s brother described him as “naive and too trusting,” adding, “he was a good kid who made bad decisions at times, and this time he sadly had to pay the ultimate price for it.”

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to identify others who may have been involved in the killing or the attempt to hide the body.
