Man sent ex-girlfriend a 'live 9mm round' in a letter 'asking to get back with her,' and put a GPS tracker on her car, according to police

A disturbing stalking case from Florida has raised serious concerns about personal safety and harassment after a breakup. A 23-year-old man is now behind bars after police say he went to extreme lengths to try and get back together with his ex-girlfriend, including sending her a live bullet and secretly tracking her movements.

What Led to the Arrest

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Jakir Hasan was arrested on Wednesday and charged with aggravated stalking and installing a tracking device without consent. Deputies responded to a home in the 5300 block of Godfrey Road in Parkland around 2 p.m. on January 28, where an adult woman reported months of harassment by her former boyfriend.

The woman told investigators that she and Hasan dated for about two years before breaking up eight or nine months ago. She made it clear that they never lived together and do not share children. Despite the breakup, she said Hasan refused to accept the end of the relationship.

Months of Harassment and Escalation

For nearly six months, the victim said Hasan repeatedly contacted her through text messages, handwritten letters, and social media. At first, the messages were about getting back together and telling her that he still loved her. Over time, however, the behaviour became more intense and frightening.

She explained that blocking his phone number or social media accounts did not stop the contact. Instead, Hasan allegedly used new phone numbers and different online accounts to continue messaging her.

Letter With a Live Bullet

One of the most alarming incidents happened on January 11. The woman told deputies she found a handwritten envelope on her driveway around 2 a.m. She said she immediately recognised it as being from Hasan because of the content inside.

According to the police affidavit, the envelope contained two long letters and a shorter note, along with a live 9mm bullet. In the letters, Hasan reportedly talked about how he had ruined the relationship and begged her to take him back, saying he loved her deeply.

Threats and Fear for Safety

The victim also told police that in one message, Hasan threatened to shoot her new boyfriend. She added that Hasan owned a black handgun and had made suicidal comments in one of the letters, which made her fear for both her safety and his mental state.

Hidden GPS Tracker Discovered

On January 27, the woman made another shocking discovery. She found an Apple AirTag hidden on her car. Apple had sent her an alert that an unknown tracking device was moving with her. Using her phone, she made the device play a sound, which helped her locate it.

AirTags can provide real-time location information, and police believe the device was placed there so Hasan could track her movements without her knowledge or permission.

Suspect’s Admission and Jail Booking

During an interview with investigators, Hasan allegedly admitted to writing the letters, sending the live 9mm bullet, and placing the tracker on the woman’s car. Following this, he was arrested and booked into the Broward County Jail.

Jail records show he is being held on a $10,000 bond. At this time, it is not clear when he is scheduled to appear in court.
