Utah soccer fans will finally get the moment they’ve been waiting for: Lionel Messi is officially scheduled to play Real Salt Lake at America First Field for the very first time on April 22, 2026. More than two years after joining MLS, the global superstar is headed to Sandy for what is expected to be one of the most anticipated matches in club history.

The announcement comes as Real Salt Lake released its full 2026 MLS schedule. RSL governor Steve Miller called the occasion historic.
“It is an honor to welcome the greatest soccer player in the world to Utah,” Miller said. “Watching the great Lionel Messi in the heart of the Wasatch will inspire fans, young players, and our entire community.”
Messi’s arrival is expected to draw national attention, sell out America First Field, and mark one of the most iconic sporting moments in Utah since the state joined Major League Soccer.
