11-Year-Old Hospitalized After Being Struck by School Bus in Hurricane

An 11-year-old student in Hurricane, Utah, was taken to the hospital Friday morning after being hit by a school bus, according to the Hurricane City Police Department.

The collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. near 700 West and 1000 South. Witnesses told police the child may have darted into the roadway moments before the bus — operated by the Washington County School District — was traveling northbound.

In its official statement, police said initial reports indicate the Hurricane Intermediate School student ran across the street and was struck by the moving bus. Emergency crews from the Hurricane Valley Fire District responded quickly, providing on-scene medical care before transporting the child to a hospital for treatment of a possible head injury.

Authorities confirmed the bus had other students onboard at the time of the accident. Neither the passengers nor the driver were injured.
