A weekend helicopter crash in the Uinta Mountains has left a young woman, Oaklee Toone, critically injured. Her family has shared a short update on her condition, along with a heartfelt appeal for support as she begins a long road to recovery.
What Happened in the Uintas
The crash happened on Sunday near the Wolf Creek Campground, just off State Route 35. According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, they received a 9-1-1 text shortly after 3 p.m. A witness reported that two helicopters were in the area. One landed safely, but the Bell 206 helicopter, carrying Oaklee, began spinning before crashing into the trees.
Oaklee Toone, her father, and two others were on board. Her father and the other two passengers were treated at the scene and released. However, Oaklee suffered a serious head injury and had to be flown by AirMed helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition.
Family’s Update on Oaklee’s Condition
Oaklee’s sister, Baylee Demars, posted a message on GoFundMe, where the family is raising funds to help with medical expenses. She explained that Oaklee’s head injury is serious enough to keep her from earning an income for a while.
Baylee also highlighted the stress of paying for both the emergency helicopter transport and ongoing medical bills. She described their father as a generous man who has always given back to others, and now the family is hoping for the same kind of support in return during this difficult time.
Crash Investigation Underway
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has begun an investigation into what caused the crash. The witness mentioned that the Bell 206 was circling before it suddenly spun out of control and crashed into trees. These details will be important for investigators as they work to determine what went wrong.
How You Can Help
The family is asking for financial help through their GoFundMe page. Contributions will go toward Oaklee’s medical costs, recovery support, and helping her manage while she is unable to work. Whether it’s a donation or simply spreading the word, the family appreciates any help during this time.
