A 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly killing and decapitating her boyfriend, then fleeing to Mexico to avoid capture.
Alyssa Lira Arrested in Mexico, Returned to U.S.
On January 22, authorities in Mexico arrested Alyssa Marie Lira in connection with the brutal killing of 55-year-old Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal. The next day, she was taken into custody at the San Ysidro Point of Entry and booked into jail on suspicion of murder, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Decapitated Body Found in Anaheim Home
The case began on August 25, 2025, when Anaheim police officers performed a welfare check at Lira’s residence. There, they discovered Gonzalez-Carbajal’s decapitated remains, as reported by KKTV.
Investigators said Lira and the victim had been dating for about two months after meeting at a strip club where Lira worked as a dancer, according to KTLA.
Murder Charge and Weapon Allegation Filed
Lira was officially charged with:
- One felony count of murder
- One felony enhancement for personally using a weapon
While prosecutors have not revealed a motive, they believe the crime was likely an act of domestic violence.
Facing 26 Years to Life in Prison
Lira is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on February 13. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison.
Multiple law enforcement agencies from both the U.S. and Mexico worked together to locate and extradite Lira back to the United States.
