A frightening wrong-way driving incident unfolded in Windsor, California, on the afternoon of February 2, 2026, prompting swift action from the Town of Windsor Police Department and the temporary closure of a key roadway near U.S. Highway 101.
911 Calls Report Reckless Pickup Truck
At approximately 3:18 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driving dangerously along Arata Lane, heading west from Brooks Road. Witnesses said the truck was swerving in the middle of both westbound and eastbound lanes, raising immediate safety concerns.
Pursuit Begins on Old Redwood Highway
Windsor Police quickly located the suspect vehicle on Old Redwood Highway, near the southbound U.S. 101 on-ramp. When the driver refused to stop for flashing lights and sirens, deputies initiated a pursuit. The truck continued to travel northbound in the wrong direction, south of Eastside Road, further endangering traffic.
Precision Maneuver Brings Pursuit to an End
To stop the dangerous situation, a Windsor deputy used a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), a controlled maneuver to disable the vehicle. The pickup truck came to rest on top of the deputy’s patrol car hood, effectively ending the pursuit without causing injury.
Medical Emergency Identified as Cause
Once the vehicle was stopped, deputies determined that the driver was experiencing a medical emergency. The driver was safely removed from the truck and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He was later discharged.
No Injuries and Temporary Road Closure
Fortunately, no injuries were reported to either the driver or law enforcement. As a precaution, a section of Old Redwood Highway near Eastside Road was temporarily closed to through traffic during the investigation and later reopened.
