An elderly woman who tragically lost her life in a Tumwater parking lot accident on Monday has been identified as Victoria Roser, 86, of Olympia. The incident occurred just before noon at a grocery store located at 520 Cleveland Ave. Southeast.
According to Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock, Roser died from blunt force head injuries, and her death has been ruled accidental.
A Tragic Accident in a Busy Lot
Tumwater Police Lieutenant Jen Kolb shared that the 51-year-old male driver involved in the incident “just didn’t see” Roser before the collision occurred. The driver was not arrested and showed no signs of impairment, Kolb confirmed.
“This was a very sad and unfortunate accident,” she said.
The Washington State Patrol also assisted in the investigation later that afternoon. At this time, no charges are being filed, and authorities continue to treat it as an accident.
Community Grieves Loss of Olympia Resident
Roser, a longtime resident of Olympia, was walking through the grocery store’s parking lot when the accident occurred. With no indications of reckless driving or DUI, police have ruled out criminal negligence.
The case highlights the dangers that can exist even in everyday places like parking lots — especially for seniors, who are more vulnerable to injuries in such incidents.
As the community mourns Roser’s passing, officials remind all drivers to stay extra alert in pedestrian-heavy areas, especially during busy midday hours when foot traffic can be high.
