BYU men’s basketball player Kennard Davis Jr., 20, was arrested Thursday morning after a car crash in Provo led officers to suspect he was driving under the influence, according to the Provo Police Department.
Crash and Arrest
Police say the crash happened around 11:50 a.m. near 900 West and Center Street. During the response, officers determined there was probable cause to arrest Davis for DUI. He was taken to the Provo Police Station for further evaluation, issued a DUI citation, and later released for medical treatment for minor injuries. His vehicle was impounded.
BYU Responds
A spokesperson for Brigham Young University said the athletic department is aware of the incident and is reviewing the situation.
Davis, a regular starter, opened the season strong for the No. 7–ranked Cougars, scoring 12 points and dishing out two assists in last week’s win over Holy Cross. He did not play in Tuesday’s win over Delaware due to Achilles soreness, according to head coach Kevin Young.
The team left Thursday for its upcoming road game against No. 3 UConn, scheduled for Saturday at TD Garden in Boston.
Player Background
Davis transferred to BYU from Southern Illinois, where he started 41 of 64 games across two seasons. Last year, he averaged 16.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 32 games — one of the top performers for the Salukis before joining the Cougars.
