Armed Fugitive Shot by U.S. Marshals During Arrest Attempt in West Valley City

West Valley City, Utah — A fugitive wanted on an arrest warrant was shot and critically injured late Thursday night after fleeing from a home during a U.S. Marshals task force operation, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. near 3900 South and 5600 West, when members of the U.S. Marshals Service attempted to serve a warrant on a man from St. George. As officers approached, the suspect bolted from the residence through a back door while carrying a handgun.

According to investigators, one member of the task force opened fire after the armed suspect ignored commands and continued to run. The man was struck and later transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or details about the charges that prompted the warrant.

The West Valley City Police Department and Salt Lake County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Task Force are assisting with the investigation to determine what led to the shooting.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

Officials say the area was temporarily closed Thursday night as crime scene investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

More information is expected once the suspect’s condition stabilizes and investigators conclude preliminary interviews.
