OGDEN, Utah – An AMBER Alert issued Wednesday for a 13-year-old Ogden girl has been canceled after authorities confirmed she was safely located in Colorado and the suspected abductor taken into custody.
According to the Ogden City Police Department, officers received a report of a missing juvenile around 2:00 p.m. The details they uncovered about the suspected abductor, identified as 33-year-old Christopher Thomas Wiggins, met the criteria for an AMBER Alert, prompting an urgent, statewide notification.
By 7:00 p.m., deputies with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado had located and apprehended Wiggins. The girl was found safely in Fort Collins, Colorado, and her family has been notified.
A family member told media that the suspect is now in custody and expressed relief that the teen was found alive and safe.
Authorities have not yet confirmed what criminal charges Wiggins will face. Investigators in Utah and Colorado are expected to coordinate as the case moves forward.
The AMBER Alert system, created to rapidly share information about abducted children, is a partnership between law enforcement, media and transportation agencies designed to bring children home safely as quickly as possible. More information about how alerts are activated and the criteria involved can be found through the official AMBER Alert Program.
Parents and guardians are also encouraged to review child safety and abduction prevention resources from organizations like the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which provides guidance on what to do if a child goes missing and how to respond in the crucial first hours.
For now, officials say the most important update is that the 13-year-old girl is safe, and the immediate threat has passed. Further details about the investigation and any forthcoming charges are expected to be released as the case develops.
