State Route 92, also known as the Alpine Loop, has reopened after a fatal single-vehicle crash early Monday morning near Timpanogos Cave National Monument in American Fork Canyon, according to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP).

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m., when emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway. Upon arrival, troopers found a single vehicle involved in the incident. The driver, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the name or age of the victim, as next-of-kin notifications are still pending.

Investigators have not confirmed the cause of the crash or any contributing factors such as speed, impairment, or road conditions. UHP Sgt. Michael Alexander said details about what led to the crash remain under investigation.

For several hours, traffic was closed at the mouth of American Fork Canyon as crews worked to investigate and clear the wreckage. The closure impacted early morning commuters and hikers heading toward the Timpanogos Cave National Monument and other recreation areas along the scenic Alpine Loop.

By approximately 6 a.m., officials reopened the roadway to all traffic after completing cleanup and documentation.

The Utah Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and will release more information as it becomes available.
