Alaska is preparing to send out its final wave of 2025 Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) payments, with about 160,000 residents still waiting for their $1,000 checks. The PFD program — funded through state-managed oil revenue investments — has been a staple of Alaska’s economy for over 40 years, offering residents annual cash support in a state where everyday living costs run high.
This year’s payment of $1,000 per eligible resident is smaller than the $1,702 paid in 2024, but it remains a crucial financial boost as winter heating bills rise across the state.
Three batches already paid — one more to go
The Alaska Department of Revenue has already issued most of the 2025 payouts through three major payment rounds:
- October 9: First wave, mostly direct deposits for applicants with verified banking details.
- October 16: Second round, covering later filers and residents in remote communities.
- October 23: A large distribution of more than 300,000 payments, pushing total payouts close to 500,000 as winter weather began to hit.
The final PFD payout of 2025 is scheduled for November 20, covering around 160,000 applicants who remained in “Eligible–Not Paid” status after the November 12 review cutoff. Many in this group fall under appeals, additional documentation checks, or delays caused by mail and access issues in isolated areas.
Eligibility basics: who qualifies for a PFD?
The PFD exists to support long-term Alaska residency, so the rules are strict. To receive the 2025 payment, residents must meet the following requirements:
- Lived in Alaska for the entire year of 2024 with intent to remain permanently
- Not claimed residency in any other state since 2023
- Spent at least 72 hours in Alaska during each of the past two years
- No felony convictions or disqualifying jail time
Following these guidelines, the state expects more than 660,000 Alaskans to receive payments this year.
Applications for the 2026 PFD cycle will open early next year through the Alaska Department of Revenue, which manages the program.
