SPANISH FORK, Utah — A multi-vehicle crash involving a truck hauling a horse trailer left one woman dead and shut down part of U.S. Highway 6 in Spanish Fork on Sunday evening, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 7:50 p.m. when the westbound truck struck several vehicles that were stopped at a red light near Spanish Fork Parkway, according to Spanish Fork Police Lt. Cory Slaymaker.

An 85-year-old woman who was among those hit was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Her name has not yet been released. Another individual was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said.

The pickup truck was towing a trailer carrying four horses, and one of the animals suffered a broken leg in the collision.

Authorities closed U.S. 6 between Canyon Road and Spanish Fork Parkway while investigators examined the scene and crews worked to remove debris. As of 9 p.m., police said the highway was expected to remain closed for several more hours, with traffic diverted onto Canyon Road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
