Sometimes, all you can do is laugh when things get too absurd — and that’s exactly what happened on The View as the hosts reacted to former President Donald Trump’s latest interview.
Trump Denies “Nationalizing Elections” in NBC Interview
During a recent sit-down interview with NBC’s Tom Llamas, former President Donald Trump was asked what he meant when he suggested “nationalizing elections.” Trump denied ever using the term, responding, “I didn’t say ‘nationalizing.’ I said there are some areas in our country that are extremely corrupt. They have very corrupt elections.”
When asked if he would trust the results of the upcoming midterm elections if Republicans lose control of Congress, Trump replied, “I will if the elections are honest.”
Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Trump’s Contradictions
Back on The View, Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t buying it. She pointed out the contradiction between Trump’s latest statement and his past claims of election fraud.
“Is your TV broken? Has nobody showed you the things that have come out of your mouth, sir?” she asked. “You did say that. We talked about it! We saw you say it! It’s on video! Unless now you’re telling everybody that that was AI.”
Goldberg looked visibly frustrated, even struggling to continue her thoughts, while co-host Joy Behar joked that maybe Trump was suffering from short-term memory loss. Goldberg agreed, but quickly returned to a more serious tone, asking, “Is this a hint that we’re going to hear more election fraud claims if the GOP loses?”
Sunny Hostin: “He’s Setting It Up”
Co-host Sunny Hostin echoed Goldberg’s concerns, saying that Trump seemed to be preparing the groundwork to once again question election results. “He’s setting it up for that,” she said, referencing how Trump questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election results even before votes were fully counted.
Whoopi Remembers the Georgia Call – and Can’t Stop Laughing
Whoopi Goldberg broke into laughter recalling the infamous phone call Trump made to Georgia officials after the 2020 election. “You sent people into Georgia, OK? First, you called Georgia when you lost and said, ‘Look, all I need is 11,000 votes,’” she said, referencing a now well-known incident.
The studio audience applauded as Goldberg, laughing through her words, said, “You say you believe you won. But if you believe you won, why were you calling them to get extra votes?”
“This Is Why People Think You Cheat”
Goldberg didn’t hold back, continuing her rant with more sharp words for the former president. “This is why people feel like you cheat!” she exclaimed. “Why do you need these votes? The state of Georgia told you, ‘Sir, you lost here.’ They said it again and again. You lost in Georgia!”
According to Goldberg, that’s exactly why many Americans question Trump’s motives and credibility when it comes to elections.
