This happy, snuggle-loving puppy just wants to be close to you

If you’ve been searching for a loyal companion who loves being close and thrives on affection, Akira might be the perfect pup for you. Sandy Paws Rescue Inc., a foster-based dog rescue in Massachusetts, recently introduced Akira to potential adopters—and he’s already stealing hearts.

A Calm and Affectionate Personality

Akira is the kind of dog who simply wants to be by your side. Whether he’s curling up under a blanket at your feet or quietly napping while you work, he enjoys being near people and soaking up every bit of love. Described by Sandy Paws Rescue as sweet, gentle, and full of quiet joy, Akira is truly a “snuggle buddy.”

Well-Trained and Ready for Home Life

Akira is both potty-trained and crate-trained. While he may let out a small protest when first crated, he quickly settles down. He currently lives with a foster who works from home and fits perfectly into that routine—napping, lounging nearby, and going out for bathroom breaks about six times a day.

His easy-going nature makes him a great fit for someone with a home-based lifestyle or anyone looking for a relaxed, affectionate dog.

Gets Along with Other Dogs—but Doesn’t Need Them

Akira is described as “dog savvy” but not overly playful. He has met an energetic adult dog and coexisted peacefully, without much interest in play. That means Akira can live as an only dog or with another calm, respectful pet. He’s flexible and adaptable depending on his future home.

Loves the Car and Is Learning the Leash

Akira enjoys car rides and prefers to be held while travelling. As for walks, he’s still learning leash manners, but his foster expects he’ll get the hang of it quickly. While he may briefly bark at visitors or the doorbell, he settles down fast. One charming trait? When he’s excited and wants to be picked up, he jumps straight into the air—a move that’s as cute as it sounds!

The Ideal Home for Akira

Akira would do best with someone who is home most of the time and wants a close, cuddly companion. He’s low-to-medium energy, so even apartment living is fine as long as he gets regular walks and plenty of love. He thrives on routine, closeness, and consistency.

Meet Akira in Person at Pooches & Smooches

If Akira sounds like your kind of dog, you can meet him in person at the “Pooches & Smooches: Meet & Greet” event hosted by Sandy Paws Rescue Inc. The event takes place on Saturday, February 7th at Naukabout Brewing in Mashpee, Massachusetts. It’s a great chance to snuggle with rescue dogs, say hello to the team, and learn more about adoption opportunities.

About Sandy Paws Rescue Inc.

Sandy Paws Rescue Inc. is a volunteer-run nonprofit based in Massachusetts. The organization is dedicated to giving dogs new beginnings through a loving foster-based system. They rescue dogs from shelters, abusive situations, and owner surrenders across Massachusetts, and even help strays from other states like Texas, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina.

Since they don’t operate a physical shelter, every rescued dog is cared for in a nurturing home until they’re adopted. Their work is powered entirely by volunteers—many of whom juggle full-time jobs—and the joy of finding forever homes for these deserving dogs.

Why Community Support Matters

Although adoption fees help, they don’t cover all the costs involved in caring for rescue dogs. From vet bills and food to transportation and supplies, Sandy Paws Rescue relies heavily on donations. Supporting the organization not only helps dogs like Akira find loving homes, but it also keeps this important mission alive.
