In a heartbreaking and disturbing case out of Atlanta, a mother has been charged with murder after authorities say she intentionally poisoned her infant with alcohol.
According to multiple reports, on October 15, 2025, police responded to a home where they found a baby — referred to in official documents as Baby Nova — unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency responders rushed the child to a nearby children’s hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
High Blood Alcohol Level Found in Infant
A medical examiner later determined that Baby Nova’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.179 — more than twice the legal limit for an adult to drive. However, there were no signs of physical trauma on the infant’s body.
Initially, the baby’s mother, 37-year-old Omayrilin Colon, denied giving him alcohol. She claimed she had only fed him formula from a bottle. But medical experts determined that the alcohol could not have passed through breast milk, indicating that the child had directly consumed the substance.
Authorities have not revealed what kind of alcohol was involved.
Mother Arrested and Held Without Bond
Following a toxicology report, police obtained an arrest warrant for Colon. She was taken into custody on January 29, 2026, and charged with murder and first-degree cruelty to children. She is currently being held without bond, and her next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
As of now, investigators have not disclosed a motive behind the act.
This case has sparked outrage and deep sadness across the community, as people struggle to understand how something so tragic could happen to such a young and innocent life.
