A Florida-based doctor is facing serious legal trouble after being accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of goods from a Jacksonville Target store. Authorities say the incident took place earlier this month and has resulted in grand theft charges.
Lindsey Jae Minshew, 40, was arrested on January 23 and charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing merchandise valued between $750 and $4,999, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).
Doctor Turned Theft Suspect
According to a report by Action News Jax, Minshew has been a licensed medical professional in Florida since 2012, with her credentials verified by the Florida Department of Health.
Despite her professional background, she’s now accused of committing a crime that caught the attention of store employees and law enforcement. The alleged theft took place at a Target store on River City Drive in Jacksonville.
Nearly $3,000 in Alleged Stolen Goods
JSO’s arrest report, reviewed by PEOPLE, says a Target employee reported the theft, claiming that the suspect stole merchandise valued at $2,716.61. Authorities have not publicly detailed what items were allegedly taken.
Surveillance and investigative efforts led police to a black 2024 Porsche 911, reportedly registered to Minshew. According to the report, the vehicle arrived in the area 30 minutes before Minshew entered the store. Police later discovered the car had also been reported stolen, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Arrest and Release
Minshew was taken into custody on January 23 and was released from jail the next day, on January 24. At this time, it’s unclear if she has retained an attorney, and no official statement has been made on her behalf.
While she has not been charged with auto theft at this time, the police report’s mention of the Porsche being reported stolen may lead to further investigation.
A Shocking Fall from Grace
The case has surprised many in the Jacksonville area, especially those familiar with Minshew’s career as a medical professional. As of now, the Florida Department of Health has not issued any public disciplinary action regarding her medical license, but that could change depending on the outcome of the criminal case.
If convicted of grand theft — a felony offense in Florida — Minshew could face up to five years in prison, significant fines, and possible professional consequences, including suspension or revocation of her medical license.
