DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – A 26-year-old man from Davis County is facing serious charges for crimes involving child sexual abuse content and secretly recording family members without their consent. The case came to light after disturbing online activity was reported.
Hidden Camera Used in Family Home
Authorities began investigating after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report in August. It stated that someone had uploaded files online that looked like child sexual abuse material. After tracing the upload, investigators linked it to a home in Davis County.
On Wednesday, officers from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force searched the home. During questioning, the man admitted to downloading child sexual abuse content in the past, saying it had been over a year ago. However, he also admitted to watching similar material as recently as a month ago.
Detectives also learned that the man had set up a hidden camera in the bedroom of an adult family member. The camera had secretly recorded her while she was changing clothes. He confessed to setting up the camera in December 2024. He also claimed it hadn’t been used for about a month before the search.
Shocking Discovery of Exploitative Files
During the search, police found disturbing content on the man’s phone and computer. According to investigators, the devices held:
- Numerous child sexual abuse videos and images
- Secret recordings from the hidden camera
- A written document believed to be a “guide” explaining how to manipulate and abuse children
On the spy camera’s SD card, officers also found footage of someone lying on the bed, possibly asleep, further proving that the man had used the camera for voyeurism.
No Bail for the Accused
The man was arrested and is currently in jail without bail. His name has not been released publicly to protect the identity and privacy of the victims involved, especially the family members.
Authorities are continuing the investigation and may uncover even more material as they go through the seized devices. The ICAC Task Force, along with other law enforcement teams, are working to determine if any additional victims were involved or if more footage exists.
This case is a strong reminder of how technology can be misused to harm others and why it’s important for law enforcement and online platforms to continue working together to track such activities.
