Thurston County K9s Apprehended Two Armed Taggers and Vehicle Chase Suspects

In a bold and action-packed operation, the K-9 unit from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department played a crucial role in catching a group of armed suspects linked to a violent graffiti fight. Thanks to the sharp skills of K9 Igo and K9 Mac, law enforcement was able to track down several individuals who had pulled guns and fled the scene.

The incident began when a group of six people, suspected of tagging (illegal graffiti), got into a heated fight where guns were pulled. As the scene turned chaotic, all six suspects ran off — but not far enough to escape the department’s highly trained police dogs.

K9 Igo and K9 Mac sprang into action, and their quick work led to the capture of five out of the six suspects.

Here’s how it all went down:

  • Two suspects were found hiding deep in a wooded area.
  • One suspect was spotted and caught by a deputy during the search.
  • Two more suspects were found by K9 Mac with the help of a drone team.

K9 Igo also managed to find two firearms that were likely dropped as the suspects ran.

But the action didn’t stop there. Later, K9 Mac assisted Mason County deputies during a completely separate incident involving a car chase in Grays Harbor County. After the suspects crashed their car and ran into the woods:

  • Two suspects were tracked and caught by K9 Mac.
  • The third suspect was so frightened of being bitten by the dog that he called 911 himself to surrender peacefully.

Dogs That Do More Than Bark

K9 Igo and K9 Mac continue to prove how vital K-9 units are in modern policing. From finding hidden suspects to recovering weapons, their noses, instincts, and training make them invaluable partners in keeping communities safe.

The Sheriff’s Department praised the dogs and their handlers for their incredible teamwork and results, especially in dangerous, fast-moving situations like these.

As of now, investigations are ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed against the suspects involved in both incidents.
