Idaho Falls Begins Holiday Season with Its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

The City of Idaho Falls, the Farmer’s Market, and Idaho Falls Downtown Development teamed up once again to host the city’s highly anticipated annual tree lighting ceremony and holiday fair. Their combined efforts helped create a lively and memorable start to the Christmas season.

Thousands Gather for a Night of Festivities

Crowds of local families filled Broadway Plaza, eager to enjoy the evening’s activities. Along Memorial Drive, the holiday market featured an impressive range of booths offering everything from handmade clothing to sweet, crunchy toffee. Visitors explored the stalls, chatted with artisans, and soaked in the cheerful atmosphere.

Santa, Seasonal Treats, and Horse-Drawn Fun

A second beautifully decorated Christmas tree created the perfect backdrop for photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, much to the delight of the younger attendees. Hot beverages, holiday snacks, and meals from various local and travelling food trucks kept everyone warm as temperatures dipped.

One of the most beloved attractions remained the free horse-drawn trolley rides, a tradition that visitors look forward to every year.

Water Tower Glows in Holiday Colors

Adding to the magic, the city illuminated the Idaho Falls water tower with festive red and green lights. Long-time attendee Deon Brady shared that she and her husband never miss the celebration. She appreciated both the festive kickoff and the tribute displayed on the tree.

She said, “I just love what the city is doing to kick off the holiday season… Every year I put it on my calendar. Yep, that’s date night!”

Locals Celebrate Community Spirit

Families picked up light-up balloons for their children and wandered through the vendor rows while holiday music filled the streets. Another attendee, Koeskeese, said she often visits the farmer’s market in the summer and enjoyed experiencing a festive winter version.

She added, “It’s good to have community events… There’s a lot of fun stuff to do here.”

The Idaho Falls holiday kickoff once again proved why it remains one of the city’s favorite annual traditions.

With community partnerships, joyful entertainment, festive food, and a warm atmosphere, residents of all ages came together to welcome the Christmas season in true local spirit.

Events like this highlight the strong community connection and excitement that defines the city during the holidays.
