Cyclist Critically Injured in Crash on Kaysville Trail

A bicyclist is fighting for life after a serious crash on a popular Kaysville trail Tuesday afternoon, according to local officials.

Emergency crews from the Kaysville Fire Department responded to a call near the walking trail that runs alongside State Route 177, close to the 950 North exit. The crash was reported just before 2:45 p.m.

Witnesses told responders that the adult cyclist, who had been wearing a helmet, lost control and went down on the trail. When bystanders reached him, he was unresponsive and showed no signs of breathing or a pulse.

People nearby immediately began CPR before firefighters arrived. Crews continued lifesaving efforts and were able to restore the cyclist’s pulse at the scene, the department said.

A medical helicopter transported the rider to a nearby trauma center for advanced treatment. The most recent update shared by officials confirms the cyclist is still in the intensive care unit and remains in critical condition.

Kaysville Fire officials have not released the rider’s identity but said the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
