Rollover Crash in Layton Leaves Two Critically Injured, Shuts Down U.S. 89

A serious rollover crash in Layton, Utah, Tuesday night left two people critically injured and caused major traffic disruptions along U.S. 89, according to officials with the Utah Highway Patrol.

Violent Crash on U.S. 89

Authorities say the crash occurred on the southbound lanes of U.S. 89 near the on-ramp late Tuesday evening. Sgt. Mike Alexander reported that one vehicle lost control and rolled into the on-ramp area, colliding with a second vehicle.

The male driver of the rolling vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. His female passenger, who was ejected from the vehicle, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for emergency treatment.

Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation

All southbound lanes of U.S. 89 were closed as of late Tuesday night while troopers and crash reconstruction teams investigated the scene. Traffic was diverted to Gordon Avenue, and motorists were advised to avoid the area until further notice.

Officials have not released the names of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Preliminary evidence suggests loss of control may have been a factor.
