19-Year-Old Man Killed in Crash at Salt Lake City Construction Zone

A tragic accident near Salt Lake City International Airport on Tuesday night has left one man dead after his SUV collided with a construction vehicle inside an active work zone.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to the crash site at approximately 8:15 p.m. near 1250 North 2200 West, located just east of the airport. When officers arrived, they discovered a severe collision between an SUV and a front-end loader construction vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, 19-year-old Brian Johnson, sustained critical injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Despite emergency medical efforts, Johnson succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured in the incident. The construction vehicle operator remained on the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.

Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have not released details on whether speed, distraction, or visibility issues within the construction zone played a role.

The area around 2200 West was temporarily closed Tuesday night as accident reconstruction teams examined the scene and collected evidence.

The Salt Lake City Police Department has urged drivers to use caution when traveling through active construction zones, particularly near the airport corridor, where several large infrastructure projects are underway.

As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities had not released additional details, and no charges or citations had been filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
