Roy Communities that Care Coalition

The Roy Communities That Care (CTC), Roy City, and Parents Empowered have joined together to spread a message to prevent underage drinking. We’ve created eight murals with prevention messages to help protect our youth in Roy.

The next time you’re at the Boys and Girls Club gym in the Roy Hope Center (5051 S 5100 W), check out the new murals. To be reminded of what else you can do to safeguard our youth, read the information below.

YOU ARE THE MOST POWERFUL INFLUENCE!
Believe it or not, teens still listen to their parents. In a recent survey on underage drinking, teens reported that parental disapproval is the number one reason they choose not to drink. Also, kids are 33% less likely to use alcohol if they eat 5-7 meals a week with their family.

PARENTING TOPS PEER PRESSURE!
Take an active role in your child’s activities, and stay aware of what they are involved in by:

Bonding – Create a positive home environment and do things together as a family. Stay actively involved in your child’s life – even when you think they aren’t listening to you. You make a difference!

Boundaries – Set rules and expectations of what is expected – absolutely NO underage alcohol use. Unclear rules and expectations leave kids vulnerable to underage drinking.

Monitoring – Know where your child is, who they are with, and what they are doing. Notice your child’s emotional well-being, their moods, and help them to become involved in worthwhile activities.
