One thing I have discovered is that a talented stylist or barber, in a quality shop or salon, can often provide you with a much needed “reset” on a bad day. A rejuvenation, or at times a total renovation of your self-image and self-confidence can add real value to your happiness and well-being, especially during difficult times in life. To be able to come into a comfortable, welcoming space filled with great people inside, sit down and connect with them while they help you look and feel better is quite a blessing.
“People can be their own worst critics,” Tennelle Montag told me during my last hair cut at her business, Tennelle’s Hair Studio in West Haven. “I want to make people feel good about themselves again.” That compassionate goal is why she chose to enter the field of cosmetology, over 20 years ago. Tennelle is always quick with a smile and a friendly, genuine greeting to all whom she meets.
Her kind, caring approach towards others has been the foundation of what Tennelle sought and found with the stylists and nail technicians whom she has brought into the business. “I want to work with nice people…above all else” she told me, “I want to help them build a large, loyal clientele, like I have.” Having known other stylists and barbers over the years, very few salons or salon owners typically offer that level of development, support and mentorship. Certainly, as a patron, you see it and feel it consistently in her studio.
The atmosphere there is bright, relaxing, and fun. Tennelle and her staff exude positivity and happiness in their work. They are a dynamic and capable team. They offer just about every service that you’d need: hair, nails, coloring, perms, even good old fashioned barbering. It feels so good to drop in there every few weeks and I always leave feeling fantastic.
I have a “double crown”, just like my father and it’s a real challenge for a stylist or barber to cut correctly, as the hair growth patterns have to be accommodated in order to cut correctly. Some of the people who have cut my hair in the past have even verbalized their complaints, “oh great, you have a double crown-.” or at the very least, let out some random groans as they’ve worked on my hair. Rarely, have I enjoyed their results…even when I had a full head of hair. Fortunately for me, my crazy hair has not been an issue at Tennelle’s Hair Studio. In fact, it is very likely that I have received the best haircuts I ever have from the stylists there. My daughter also loved the way Brooklyn styled her hair just a few weeks ago as a first-time client.

Tennelle is a native of Roy City. She loves our community, dearly. She is sure to pick up a copy of Roy Connection to read whenever visiting at her parents’ house. Tennelle and her staff are the sort of individuals who make our community a better place to live and work in. Business at her studio is going very well. So much so that Tennelle is currently looking for another Hair Stylist and another Nail Technician. If you have the experience AND you are a positive, friendly people person, you will want to talk with Tennelle.
Back to School season is also upon us, once again! School pictures…those first day of school jitters…new teachers and or schools…all of that can be potentially stressful to students. Tennelle’s Hair Studio can make them all look good and feel great about going back. Give them a call to schedule your appointment. Remember to tell them you read their Business Spotlight in Roy Connection!
